Keyboardist Brian Culbertson is in the middle of this year's Soulful Christmas holiday tour, named after his 2006 album A Soulful Christmas. The tour features saxophonist Gerald Albright, vocalist Howard Hewett, guitarist Nick Colionne, and vocal newcomer Victoria White.
Several changes have been made to the tour itinerary -- the Los Angeles show on December 18th has been moved for the Wilshire Theater to the El Rey Theater, and the Portland, Oregon date on December 21st has been canceled.
As on last year's tour, Culbertson and his special guests perform music from A Soulful Christmas, which features perennial favorites like "Jingle Bells," "The First Noel," "Deck The Halls," "The First Noel," as well as a new tune called "All Through The Christmas Night" featuring Michael McDonald. The tour will also feature music from each guest's repertoire.
The album was recorded in Southern California at the height of the summer. Was the fact that it was 80 degrees outside make the process of recording Christmas tunes seem a little strange to the Chicago native? Culbertson said: "I thought it might be, but it's actually not because, I don't know, the bottom line music is still music. And I'm just trying to make great music here. I'm getting into it no matter what the melody is, just happens to be Christmas songs (laughs)."
Culbertson's holiday tour last year featured saxophonists Eric Darius and Warren Hill along with guitarist-vocalists Ray Parker Jr. and Bobby Caldwell.
Dates for the 2007 Soulful Christmas are as follows:
December 18 - Los Angeles, CA - The Wilshire Theatre
December 20 - Seattle, WA - Paramount Theater
December 21 - Portland, WA - Crystal Ballroom - CANCELED
December 22 - Redwood City, CA - Fox Theatre
Culbertson already has one special date booked for early 2008 -- a Valentine's Day show at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert, Ohio.
