Saxophonist Boney James has released a new holiday album called Christmas Present on Concord Records. The new set features a number of special guests, including smooth jazz trumpeter Rick Braun on "The First Noel." James also invited soulful vocalists Anthony Hamilton, Angie Stone, and Chante Moore to contribute to the set.
James includes versions of Joni Mitchell's "River," Vince Guaraldi's Peanuts tune "Skating," and David Foster's "My Grown Up Christmas List," as well as favorites like "Santa Baby," "O Tannenbaum," "Merry Christmas Baby," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."
Christmas Present is James' first holiday set since 1996's Boney's Funky Christmas.
The smooth jazz artist's most recent studio set was the 2006 CD Shine, featuring the current single "Let It Go." He topped the smooth jazz chart with the CD tracks "The Total Experience," featuring George Duke, and "Hypnotic."
