Babyface is gaining ground at radio with "Fire And Rain," the first single from his upcoming Playlist album. The singer-songwriter's cover of the James Taylor classic was the first most-added track at smooth jazz stations and the second most-added at adult contemporary stations last week.
The tune is a preview of Playlist, which is due September 18th on the revived Mercury Records label. The set is the first from Babyface to feature mostly covers of some of his favorite pop songs. The Grammy winner also included two original tunes, including "Not Going Anywhere," which he wrote for his two sons.
The Indianapolis native will embark on a whirlwind promotional tour of the media to help promote the set. Babyface has lined up appearances on NBC's The Today Show and ABC's Live With Regis & Kelly, both on September 19th. On September 21st, he will guest on radio's syndicated Wake Up With Whoopi show, and that night he'll be seen on the CMT channel's Crossroads Concert Special with Tricia Yearwood from Nashville.
