Fans of soul veteran Aretha Franklin have even more to celebrate this month. Rhino Records will release a double-disk package titled Rare And Unreleased Recordings From The Golden Reign Of The Queen Of Soul on October 16th, according to Billboard.com. The set will feature B-sides, demos, and outtakes from Franklin's 13-year tenure with Atlantic Records, starting in 1967.
Disk One will include previously unreleased Franklin tracks "You Keep Me Hanging On," "Trying To Overcome," and "My Way," a rare cover of the Beatles' "Fool On The Hill," and demo versions of "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)," "Dr. Feelgood (Love Is a Serious Business)," and "Sweet Bitter Love."
Disk Two offers a range of material, including an alternate version of "Rock Steady" and outtakes from the "Young, Gifted and Black" and "Hey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky)" sessions. Also included is a duet with the late Ray Charles on "Ain't but the One," from a televised tribute to Duke Ellington.
The Rhino set precedes Franklin's upcoming CD of classic and newly recorded duets titled Jewels In The Crown: All-Star Duets With The Queen due November 13th. The RCA Music set documents Franklin's post-Atlantic years on Arista through duets with such stars as Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Elton John, George Michael, George Benson, and numerous others.
