|
Aretha Franklin has been tapped as the headliner for the upcoming 2008 JVC Jazz Festival, formerly known as the Newport Jazz Festival. The Queen Of Soul will perform August 9th at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island.
Other performers include saxophonists Sonny Rollins and Wayne Shorter, trumpeter Chris Botti, and pianist and composer Herbie Hancock.
Franklin's most recent CD release was the compilation Jewels In The Crown: All-Star Duets With The Queen, released last November. The RCA Music set pairs Franklin's legendary vocals with those of such major stars as Mary J. Blige, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox, Elton John, George Michael, George Benson, and numerous others.
The veteran singer was honored in February with the MusiCares Person of the Year award at a benefit that raised a record $4.5 million for the musicians' aid association.
