Singer Anita Baker is enjoying opportunities to go out and perform in front of her fans. The Detroit-based singer has been playing select dates around the country, and says she got a creative boost from her touring band, which features a few new members, including a new drummer and keyboardist.
Baker says that the musicians were so on fire that at the first rehearsals, they grooved on without her, as she explained: "The first month or so I didn't put a lot of dates on the calendar because I knew I was having a new rhythm section and I wanted us to have time to gel. But these guys gelled at rehearsal. I mean, I didn't sing at rehearsal. One rehearsal I just hung my dress on the microphone stand and let 'em play, 'cause I'm like: Y'all don't need me."
Baker's next concert date is August 18th at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
