Alicia Keys To Be Saluterd At Bet Honors

Singer Alicia Keys will be among the honorees at the 2008 BET Honors, set for next month. The inaugural event, to be presented January 12th in Washington, D.C., is dedicated to recognizing the achievements and contributions of distinguished African American leaders in their fields.

Besides Keys, honorees will include model and media mogul Tyra Banks, educator and author Dr. Cornel West, California Congresswoman Maxine Waters, corporate executive Richard Parsons and entrepreneur Janice Bryant Howroyd.

The BET Honors, featuring host Cedric The Entertainer, will be broadcast on BET on February 22nd.

Keys is currently promoting her new album As I Am, which features the Number One, Grammy-nominated single "No One." The set represents Keys return to songwriting after traveling and then caring for a sick relative. She also welcomed some new collaborators into the studio.

Recently, Keys explained that fans and colleagues tell her she sounds different than on previous CDs Songs In A Minor and The Diary Of Alicia Keys. Said Keys: "A lot of people have said, 'Aurally she sounds different.' I think I sound different because I am different."
