Alicia Keys Inspired by Egyptian Culture

Alicia KeysAlicia Keys has become one of the most popular artists in the world. She renewed her musical dedication and vigor in 2006 after taking off an extensive amount of time to spend with family and to travel alone to see the world. The result can be heard on her current album As I Am.

The singer says one of the places where she got the most inspiration was Egypt, a place where the culture goes back thousands of years. Being able to view monuments and pyramids that had weathered the centuries made her think about the power of vision. While there, Keys decided to have a personal memento made.

Keys explained: "I went to this jeweler guy there in Egypt. And one of the native stones is lapis, and it's this beautiful dark blue stone. And I just asked him, Can you make the lapis stone into a pyramid so I can wear it near my heart? Because I just wanted to remember the fact that anything that I visualize in my mind, anything I see, I can make it real."

Keys' current single is the tune "Superwoman." She is currently on a hiatus before resuming her international tour on September 12th.
