Deborah Kerr, who infamously rolled and kissed in the surf with Burt Lancaster in the film classic From Here To Eternity, died Tuesday (October 16th). The actress, who suffered from Parkinson's disease, was 86 years old.
The Scottish-born actress performed in local theaters and entertained the troops during World War II. In 1941, she had her first major screen role in the film Major Barbara. In addition to From Here To Eternity, she is known to many for her role opposite Yul Brynner as Anna Leonowens, the British governess who falls for the King of Siam in The King and I.
Kerr leaves behind her husband, Peter Viertel, two daughters and three grandchildren.
The actress was a six-time Oscar nominee as Best Actress. In 1994, she was given an honorary Oscar.
