'Halloween' Breaks Holiday Weekend Record

Rob Zombie's remake of the classic slasher movie Halloween broke the record for a new release during the Labor Day holiday weekend. According to Variety, the flick earned more than $31 million this past weekend. Zombie's take on Halloween stars Malcolm McDowell of A Clockwork Orange as Dr. Loomis and X-Men mutant Tyler Mane as the adult version of Michael Myers. Actress Scout Taylor Compton plays Laurie Strode, the lead female role. Compton says the part was an ideal fit because she's been around blood and guts her whole life. Her father happens to be a mortician and a coroner: "I kind of grew up in that weird world with my dad introducing me to scary movies and whatnot at a young age and the embalming process and all the mortuary business and the coroner lingo. I mean, I grew up in that so honestly scary movies don't scare me at all but I love it."

The original Halloween came out in 1978 and helped launch the career of Jamie Lee Curtis, who played the Laurie Strode character.
